In coal seam gas (CSG) operations, pipework is under constant stress. When temperatures change, steel expands and contracts. There are vibrations, pumps cycling on and off, and ground movement that places strain on pipe connections.
Without suitable expansion and contraction bellows, that stress is transferred into the pipework, flanges and equipment, causing leaks, premature wear or other problems that need to be repaired.
The right expansion joints can make a big difference.
At Pacific Hoseflex, we supply engineered expansion joints for the onshore oil and gas industry, protecting critical infrastructure, improving reliability and reducing maintenance across coal seam gas applications.
High-performing expansion joints
The right expansion joints will absorb movement before it affects the rest of your system. Depending on your application, they will help accommodate:
- Thermal expansion and contraction
- Pump and compressor vibration
- Pipe misalignment
- Axial and angular movement
- Ground settlement
- Building or structural movement
- Seismic movement where required
Choosing the right expansion joint
The right product depends on operating pressure, temperature, media being transferred, movement requirements and the surrounding environment. We offer a range of expansion joints to suit these different industrial applications.

Rubber expansion joints
Rubber expansion joints are often used on both suction and discharge lines because they have exceptional flexibility, stability and pressure capabilities. They’re ideal for absorbing vibration and accommodating thermal movement in systems operating at temperatures of up to 115°C, helping reduce stress on connected equipment.
Metallic expansion joints
For high-pressure, demanding industrial applications, metallic expansion joints provide great durability. They are used throughout refineries, chemical processing facilities and the onshore oil and gas industry. Designed to absorb thermal expansion, they maintain system integrity under pressure.
PTFE expansion joints
For corrosion resistance, PTFE expansion joints offer an excellent solution. Manufactured from contour-moulded PTFE, they provide chemical resistance while accommodating axial movement, angular deflection and pipe misalignment. Their moulded sealing face also eliminates the need for separate gaskets, simplifying installation and reducing maintenance.
Protect your pipework
Expansion joints might only be one part of your piping system, but they play an important role in protecting the equipment connected to them. By allowing controlled movement where it’s needed, they help reduce stress on pumps, valves and pipework, minimise vibration and extend the life of your system.
For coal seam gas operators, that means fewer maintenance issues, improved reliability and greater confidence that critical infrastructure will continue performing as it should.
